Dr. Jennifer Bacon is a Core Associate Professor in Education and Human Development. She earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her MEd in Special Education from the University of Virginia. Andrew M. Bland, PhD, is a member of the graduate clinical psychology faculty at Millersville University in Lancaster County, PA. He received a master’s degree from the University of West Georgia’s humanistic-existential-transpersonal psychology program (2003) and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Indiana State University (2013). He is a licensed psychologist, currently practicing at Samaritan Counseling Center in Lancaster, PA. He serves on the executive committees of the Society for Humanistic Psychology (Division 32 of the American Psychological Association, APA) and the Society for Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology (Section 3 of Division 5 of APA) and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology and the Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Criminology.  Visit his author page to find out more about UPP author Dr. Bland! 


Elayne Clift, MA, is an award-winning writer, journalist, workshop leader, and lecturer. Her work has appeared in The Washington PostThe Boston GlobeThe Christian Science MonitorThe Chronicle of Higher EducationSalon.com, and numerous magazines, periodicals, and anthologies internationally. She is a regular columnist for three New England newspapers and a reviewer for The New York Journal of Books. She has published two memoirs, two books of poetry, three short story collections, three essay collections, a travel memoir, and four edited anthologies and invited works, including Women’s Encounters with the Mental Health Establishment (Haworth Press, 2002) and Women, Philanthropy, and Social Change: Visions for a Just Society (University Press of New England/Tufts University Press,2005). Her poem “I Listen and My Heart is Breaking” was set to music and performed by the world-renowned a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock. Eugene Mario DeRobertis, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology at Brookdale College in New Jersey and a Lecturer at Rutgers University-Newark. He did his undergraduate degree in philosophy, with a minor in psychology at St. Peter’s University. While at St. Peter’s, he studied with the humanistic personality theorist and civil rights activist, Robert F. Massey, and the existential Thomist, Robert H. Cousineau. He then went on to receive his PhD in psychology from Duquesne University. His mentor at Duquesne was the existential-hermeneutic personality theorist, Edward L. Murray. Jason Dias, PsyD, teaches graduate and undergraduate psychology. He is a cofounder of the Zhi Mian Institute for International Existential Psychology, frequently visiting China to deepen and extend international understanding of existential and humanistic psychology. Evgenia Georganda, PsyD, ECP, is an Existential-Humanistic therapist, member of the American Psychological Association (APA), and of Division 32 of Humanistic Psychology. Evgenia is a certified psychotherapist and member of the European Association of Psychotherapists (EAP), the Federation for Existential Therapy in Europe (FETE), the Hellenic Psychological Society (HPS), and the Association of Greek Psychologists (SEPS). Evgenia has taught psychology at both graduate and undergraduate programs in private colleges and the Greek University as well as lectured and run seminars both in local and international congresses. She is the author of three books and two albums from her solo photo exhibitions and has written articles for journals and collective works both in Greece and abroad. Amedeo Giorgi, PhD, received his PhD in psychology from Fordham University in 1958 and first taught at Manhattan College and then at Duquesne University. He was trained in experimental psychology and he pursued a career in academic psychology. He found the standard experimental and quantitative procedures being pursued by mainstream psychology to be too limited for human phenomena so he turned to phenomenological philosophy as the basis for a non-reductionistic and non-naturalistic philosophical anthropology. He is the author of Psychology as a Human Scienceand The Descriptive Phenomenological Method in Psychology, and was the founder of the Journal of Phenomenological Psychology and its first editor for 25 years.  He transferred to Saybrook University in 1986 where he taught courses in phenomenological methodology and phenomenological psychology. From 1990 until 1995 he held a joint appointment with the francophone University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). He is currently Professor Emeritus at Saybrook and continues to write articles demonstrating the value of phenomenological approaches to psychological phenomena. Nathaniel Granger, Jr., PsyD, is an adjunct faculty member at Saybrook University and Pikes Peak State College.  He is a past-president of the Society for Humanistic Psychology (APA Division 32) and Treasurer of the Rocky Mountain Humanistic Counseling and Psychological Association. Dr. Granger is a sought after speaker with several publications, presentations, workshops, and keynotes to his credit. Dr. Granger is founder and director of Be REAL Ministries, Inc., a faith-based non-profit organization devoted to Making a Difference for REAL People with REAL Issues, particularly the homeless population as well as other disenfranchised groups. Tom Greening, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at Saybrook University and was the editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology for 35 years. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and recipient of the Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Humanistic Psychology and the Thomas Szasz Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Cause of Civil Liberties. Frank Gruba-McCallister, PhD received his master’s and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University. He is currently retired after having taught for over thirty-three years at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology-Chicago, Adler University, and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology-Chicago. He was the recipient of numerous of awards for teaching. He also served in academic administration at all three schools. He has published and done professional presentations in the areas of humanistic/existential psychology, spirituality, critical psychology, and the role of psychology in advancing social justice. Betsy HallPhD, is the Assistant Dean and Professor in the Division of Counseling and Family Therapy at Regis University.  Her passion lies in teaching courses on substance abuse and trauma, clinical techniques, personal mythology, and the therapeutic relationship from a depth perspective.  Dr. Hall has lectured extensively on mythological and depth approaches to treatment and counselor education.  She has been a clinical supervisor and psychotherapist in Colorado for 32 years.  Psychotherapy’s Pilgrim-Poet is Dr. Hall’s first book. Louis Hoffman, PhD, spent 19-years in full-time academia before deciding to leave to pursue writing, publishing, private practice, and teaching in more innovative and flexible contexts. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as five divisions of APA (Divisions 1, 10, 32, 36, and 52) for his contributions to the field of psychology. Dr. Hoffman has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and books, including ten books published by University Professors Press. Veronica Lac, PhD,  is the founder and executive director of The HERD Institute®, which offers training and certification for equine- facilitated psychotherapy and learning. She is also the founder and director of Share in The HERD, a non-profit organization that offers grants and scholarships for program development, training, and research in the equine-facilitated field. Veronica is passionate about increasing accessibility to and diversity of equine-facilitated services and providers and is committed to fostering collaboration within the field. Michael Moats, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice that primarily works with military personnel and their families. His passion lies in working with clients who are learning to redefine their lives and create new meaning, especially those dealing with grief and loss in its many forms. Kirk J. Schneider, PhD,  is a licensed psychologist and leading spokesperson for contemporary existential-humanistic psychology. Dr. Schneider is past president (2015-2016) of the Society for Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association, recent past editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology (2005-2012),  president-elect of the Existential-Humanistic Institute (EHI), and adjunct faculty at Saybrook University and Teachers College, Columbia University.  A Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), Dr. Schneider has published over 100 articles and chapters and has authored or edited 11 books (several of which have been translated into Chinese, German, Greek, Russian, Turkish, and Portuguese). Dr. Schneider is the recipient of the Rollo May Award from Division 32 of the APA for “Outstanding and independent pursuit of new frontiers in humanistic psychology.” Visit his author page to find out more about UPP author Dr. Kirk Schneider! 


Gaspar Segafredo, MA, is a licensed psychotherapist and a writer located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He works in private practice and in the Adult Mental Health Service of the Public Health Municipal Centre of Bajo Boulogne, in San Isidro, Buenos Aires. He is a faculty member of the University of Belgrano Psychological Department as professor of Humanistic and Existential Psychology. He has a postgraduate course and training in Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (Argentine Catholic University and Argentine Logotherapy Foundation); training in Existential Therapy (Latin-American Association of Existential Psychotherapy, directed by Susana Signorelli, and the Circle of Studies in Existential Therapy, directed by Yaqui Martínez); and in Relational Psychoanalysis (International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, Chapter Buenos Aires). Stephen W. Simpson, PhD, is a psychologist, an author, and a professor in the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the author of What Women Wish You Knew about Dating and Assaulted by Joy, and co-author of What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew about Sex. He is the father of adolescent quadruplets and who fill his heart with joy while constantly reminding him that he is no longer cool. Franklin Sollars, PhD, is a clinical faculty member of the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. He is a founding member of the Integrative Psychoanalytic Society (formerly the Michigan Society for Integrative Psychoanalytic Studies). As the Clinical Director of Sollars and Associates, a multi site clinical practice in Southern Michigan, Dr. Sollars oversees the clinical practice of both licensed psychotherapists and graduate interns. He is beginning the second book in his series on Love Outraged and the Liberation of the Core Self, a depth psychological approach to emotional and spiritual growth.   He is also working on a movie script he hopes to have completed and into production in the near future. Mark Yang, PsyD, is an American licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder and director of the International Institute of Existential-Humanistic Psychology (http://www.iiehp.org), whose mission is to promote Existential-Humanistic Psychology and provide counseling skills training to mental health professionals in Asia.  He is actively involved in the training and supervision of psychology students from the Existential-Humanistic Perspective throughout Asia.  His professional interests include:  Existential Psychology, Individual and Group Psychotherapy, Grief and Bereavement Counseling, Legal and Ethical Issues in Clinical Practice, and Cross-Cultural Psychology.  Dr. Yang is the editor of the book Existential Psychology and the Way of the Tao:  Meditations on the Writings of Zhuangzi.  He is also the co-editor of the books Existential Psychology: East-West Volumes 1 & 2.  Dr. Yang was born in Taiwan and immigrated with his family to the United States when he was nine years old.  He is also a dog and cat lover.
