How to Submit – Scholarly Manuscripts

We are currently accepting submissions.

Using the form below, please upload 1) a cover letter, 2) a prospectus including all 9 points discussed below, 3) sample chapters or the completed manuscript, and 4) a curriculum vita (CV) for all authors/editors (This should be a curriculum vita, not a brief author biography). Please review the information below carefully before finalizing and submitting your documents. Please note that over half of the submissions we receive are not accepted without review due to not following these guidelines. 

  1. We require the following four documents to review scholarship submissions. Please complete these as separate documents.
    1. A cover letter introducing your book and why you believe University Professors Press is a good fit for your manuscript.
    2. A prospectus that includes all of the following items (we recommend using the bolded portions of the bullet points as headings):
      1. Overview of Book: A brief overview of the book, the format of the book, and the book’s purpose.
      2. Table of Contents: A completed table of contents with chapter descriptions.
      3. List of Images: A list of anticipated images with a description or include the images. Note: We typically will only consider including color images if they are necessary for the book. Color images increase the price of the book and are taken into consideration pertaining to whether the book is accepted.
      4. List of Tables: A list of anticipated tables to be included. Please note that the book size will be smaller than the typical page size (8.5 x 11) and should be prepared accordingly.
      5. Intended Audience: A description of the intended audience.
      6. Textbook Consideration: Most books we publish are not likely to be textbooks; however, it is helpful to have information on whether it could be considered as a textbook. If it is not likely to be a textbook, please note this. If it could be considered for a textbook please include the following:
        1. Is your book likely to be considered for a graduate or undergraduate textbook?
        2. If so, is it likely to be a required or supplemental textbook?
        3. What courses might it consider your book as a textbook?
      7. Competing Books: A discussion of similar books in the field that may be competitors, including discussing what makes this book unique.
      8. Marketing Considerations: This should include a) a discussion of how the author will assist in marketing the book and b) recommendations for marketing.
      9. Additional Information: This can include information such as a) individuals being considered or who have agreed to write a Foreword, b) potential endorsers or people who have endorsed the book, and c) other content that
    3. A minimum of 2 completed chapters or the full manuscript. This should include a reference section. If an edited book, the chapters should include a full reference section for the chapter. If sample chapters are submitted, please include a reference section for the sample chapters or your full working reference section. Note: Manuscripts must be in good APA Style (7th edition) to be considered. Please also see our preparation guidelines below. In particular, be sure your citations, references, and headings are complete and accurate. If it is noticed that the APA style is not adequate, the proposal may not be reviewed.
    4. Current curriculum vita (CV) of the Author(s)/Editor(s) of the book with complete contact information.
  2. Prior to submitting the manuscript, please review UPP’s manuscript preparation guidelines and ensure that your manuscript has been prepared in accordance with these guidelines, including the use of APA Style (7th edition) unless noted otherwise in our manuscript preparation guidelines. Please be aware that if we notice a significant number of errors in an initial skimming of the manuscript, we generally will not send this out for review.
  3. University Professors Press specializes in humanistic, existential, and transpersonal psychology books; therefore, the relevant current literature should be considered, including relevant articles in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, The Humanistic Psychologist, Self & Society, Existential Analysis, and the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology.
