New Article “The Awe of Being Alive” by UPP Author Kirk Schneider

University Professors Press author, Kirk J. Schneider, recently published an important new article in Aeon titled, “The Awe of Being Alive.” The articles is informed by his book, The Spirituality of Awe: Challenges to the Robotic Revolution, published by University Professors Press. Dr. Schneider is a leading voice in existential-humanistic and existential-integrative therapy. For many years, he has been developing his theories on the important transformative power of awe. In The Spirituality of Awe, he combines this with an examination of the impact of robotics and other contemporary forms of technology that are impacting the lives of people living today. In his recent article, as well as in The Spirituality of Awe, Schneider also considers the value of staying with our difficult emotions and suffering instead of numbing them with distraction or other one-dimensional solutions. His intent is not to glorify or minimize suffering, but rather to identify the transformative power of emotions, even difficult emotions. The article provides a wonderful introduction to important aspects of existential-humanistic and existential-integrative therapy.
